Continental European Services - Suspension of Service

September 2021

Historically, we have extended our provision of services beyond our UK and Irish services to provide facility to despatch goods into Continental Europe through our engagement with 3 key partners for International Services.

As we came into the implementation of Brexit at the start of the year, we primarily focused our attention on ensuring that the new processes were in place and working properly with our trusted Irish partner given this represented a far higher core volume of freight across a higher number of customers. As we collectively went through the initial learning period, the new processes for Irish traffic to both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland are now well established and continue to run smoothly.

However, disruption and challenges have been seen with movements into Continental Europe, and these have been disrupted to a far greater degree. As a result of these challenges, one of our International providers withdrew services to us as they attempted to focus on provision for their largest customers at the start of the year. Soon after, we made the decision not to input through the second of our previous providers due to concerns around the excessive process and additional costs, which we felt made the process unviable and prohibitive as an option.

Since then we have been reliant upon the 3rd of our previous providers, but in a similar way to as we are all experiencing in the UK Domestic market, they have been experiencing increasing challenges in terms of available driver resource and the negative impact this has been having on service provision.

As a result we have made the difficult decision to suspend all services to Continental Europe for the short term. We are currently in discussions with alternate providers in the hope and want of restoring services at the first opportunity, once an appropriate partner has been identified who can provide the consistently high service levels we expect as a network.

Please note, this does not impact any or our Irish Services which continue to operate to their usual high standard.

We thank you for your understanding at this time, and once alternate provision has been identified and all necessary processes are in place, we hope to communicate in the very near future the restoration of European Service.
