Fuel Surcharges.
Fuel is the single greatest expense for any transport company in the UK. At Freightroute fuel-spend equates to 27% of our total annual costs.
The cost of diesel has continued to rise during recent months – driven by rising oil prices, a fall in the value of pound sterling against US dollar and more recently government duty increases, with more to come!
The transport industry is under tremendous pressure as a result of the rising cost of fuel and new regulations; everybody in the industry is subject to these rises and they cannot be avoided.
In an attempt to counteract these cost increases, Freightroute has invested in fuel saving technology. Stage 1 of this investment has been to modernise our fuel pumps. With this and a fuel management system supplied by Fueltek Ltd, we are able to view our usage in a clear, detailed and up to date way. This data allows better vehicle usage, allocating the right vehicle to right job, whether it’s a long haul return trip or a multi-drop around London City Centre.
During the month of December 2020 our cost of fuel was 92.40p per litre.
Freightroute will never attempt to profit from fuel surcharges and will always try to absorb as much of the recent & planned duty increases as we can but, we must – from time to time – impose modest increases to our surcharges to preserve the future of our business and the service offered to our customers.
