Night Operations Manager

Location: Irthlingborough NN9 5QQ
Shift Pattern: 45 Hours per week
Salary: £30,000 - £33,500 DOE
Reporting To: Depot General Manager / Depot Operations Manager

A Night Operations Manager role is available at our Irthlingborough site, working hours will be 22:00PM - 08:00AM. Objectives:

  • To manage the warehouse and night trunk operation of the depot efficiently through the shift.
  • You will manage/supervise a team of warehouse operatives and drivers in a fast moving environment, which will require planning and organizing effectively.
  • To ensure that all vehicles are loaded safely and accurately as per delivery schedules.
  • To be prepared to challenge the status quo and keen to contribute to decisions and the future of the business.
  • To review current operations and implement a practice that allows the team to operate safely within the confines of the warehouse / canopy minimizing yard operational activity.

    Main Responsibilities:

    As the role requires complete flexibility with regards to the operation and accountabilities, responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Managing the overall operation of the depot through the night ensuring that agreed targets are achieved in line with the Depot General Managers requirements.
  • Ensuring all employees are aware of their job roles and tasks to be completed during each shift.
  • Carrying out planned observations
  • Conducting disciplinary / investigation meetings as required 
  • Communicating with the Warehouse Supervisor on any specific requirements.
  • Monitoring the depots operational activities through the night, ensuring that all trunk movements are running to schedule and are communicated to destination depots when required.
  • Taking immediate action on breakdowns and work with other depots to create a solution that does not affect service levels.
  • Weekly meetings with all night staff for update reviews.
  • Ensuring that all staff/drivers are debriefed in conjunction with the debrief system and that all paperwork is accurately completed and signed.
  • Ensuring service failures are communicated effectively to the day staff and that reoccurring issues through the night are resolved.
  • Providing detailed communication through end of shift briefing, formal handovers and documentation including a minimum of one to one review meeting per week with your Depot General Manager.
  • Handling and diffusion of any employment issues arising or elevate to the Depot General Manager / HR Manager as necessary.
  • Reporting of any operational or employee issues to the Depot General Manager.
  • Ensuring that the use of agency personnel is only used as per company procedure.
  • Assisting in the training and development of new starters and provision of on-going training.
  • Completion of detailed investigation reports into near miss incidents and accidents.
  • Responding within a reasonable time period to any complaints or concerns in relation to both employees and operations.

    Health and Safety:

  • Ensure the site is legally compliant by ensuring correct processes are in place and that Safe Working Practices are followed at all times with regard to employees and visitor to site.

    About You:

  • You will have confidence in the use of Microsoft Office Tools, such as Outlook, Word and Excel; you will also be required to use Mandata, route planning software.
  • You will have good communications skills, both verbal and written, as a number of reports and KPI’s will have to be compiled for distribution to management.
  • You will have hands on attitude that will ensure that you lead your team by example and demonstrate the flexible ‘can do’ attitude required to succeed in this role.
